CFFC is a short streetcar ride and walk from Redmond |
After a 10 min walk from Long Branch station we arrive at CFFC |
We learn about CFFC founder Dr. Andrew Simone from Michael (volunteer and former principal of St. Jude)
|
We are ready to get to work! |
The goal is to fill this 40 ft container to be shipped to Zambia. |
The goal is fill this container as much as possible. CFFC ships 1-2 containers a day which cost $3000-4000 each. |
These are some of the countries that CFFC supports. |
Companies, families, and individuals can bring their donations to be shipped to 34 different developing countries |
Companies send skids of non-perishable food that are too close to their "best before date" to be sold in stores |

Even companies like Starbucks - here's a bunch of tea and coffee that they donated |
We are broken up into groups. Each with a specific task. |
Task 1: Moving all these bags of lentils. Each back is 100lbs! |
Task 2: Sorting coffee and tea donations |
Task 3: Adding paper to donated binders before boxing |
Task 4: Unloading vehicles that arrive with donations |
Task 5: Moving donations to container to be filled |
Task 6: Folding flyers and stuffing envelopes |
Malik, get to work!
|
Teamwork! |
Schools make milkbag mats |
40 ft container is almost full |
Still enough space for a some coffee and tea |
We load the container with some of the lentils we unpacked |
Container full. Good job everyone. The people of Zambia will be so happy! |
Before we left, Michael told us, "You don't know the children at the other end of that container and they don't know you. But God knows them, and God knows you....and that is your connection."
Thank you Dr. Simone for the work you do and giving us the opportunity to be the hands of Christ.

I learned today how lucky we are to live in the country we live in. We have easy access to not only our basic needs to survive but luxuries as well while there are people all over the world who don't even have the basic necessities required to sustain life. To help people I will never meet was an indescribable feeling but an oddly satisfying feeling as well. I can continue to support Dr. Simone's work by donating when I can as well as volunteering my time to help.

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, during the week when we were required to bring in donations for Dr. Simone's warehouse I was extremely sick at home with the flu. However, since then my family and I have brought gently used clothing and non-perishable food items to the warehouse.
